We're just two days away from the next Cocktails on the Farm workshop at Urban Roots Farm!! Cocktails on the Farm is an all-women workshop where we craft cocktails with seasonal flavors and explore mixology techniques using small-batch spirits. Each workshop includes three drink making stations (not to mention, small bites, farm tours, live music, and an all around magical evening!). I wanted to share a sneak peak of the menu, starting with the first station, Apple Cider Meets Whiskey. You still have a little time left to snag a ticket for this workshop.
Apple Cider Meets Whiskey includes two cocktails: Mitch and Winnie. Named after my two of my sweet friends, Michelle and Jenn, these cocktails bring together apple cider and whiskey in two different ways: Mitch with boiled apple cider (liquid gold, seriously! Spread it on everything this fall!) and a splash of lemon juice and Winnie with fragrant rosemary and a few dashes vanilla bitters. Each are extraordinary in their own right and should be garnished with salted caramels! For the cocktail night we're teaming up with Elle's Patisserie and are using her salted caramel truffles to garnish the drinks, which you see pictured here. They are unreal! At the workshop we're also using local cider from Homegrown Food, pressed in-house (if you're in Springfield, rush over there and try their sparkling cider, pronto!)
Mitch
Serves 1
1.5 ounces Copper Run Whiskey
1 ounce boiled apple cider*
.5 ounce lemon juice
lemon wedge, for garnish
small salted caramel, for garnish
Stir together the whiskey, boiled apple cider, and lemon juice in a small glass. Add ice and the lemon wedge to the glass, stir, and garnish the rim with a small salted caramel.
*Boiled Apple Cider
Bring the 1/2 gallon of fresh preservative cider to a boil over high heat in a large stockpot. Once boiling, reduce the heat to medium-low and cook uncovered, stirring occasionally with a wooden spoon, for about 5 hours. The cider will reduce from ½ gallon to one cup and take on the consistency of maple syrup.
Winnie
Serves 1
1.5 ounces Copper Run Whiskey
3 ounces apple cider
2 dash vanilla bitters
rosemary sprig, for garnish
Build the drink in a small glass. Stir together the whiskey, apple cider, and vanilla bitters using the rosemary sprig. Add ice and garnish the rim with a small salted caramel.
Cheers to the changing seasons and to beautiful fall flavors!
