1. Higher Grounds Trading Co.

Higher Grounds Trading Co. is Michigan’s well-known coffee bar and roastery that provides a premier specialty coffee experience, featuring specialized seasonal coffee and tea-based beverages.

They roast 100 percent organic, fairly traded coffee sourced directly from farmer partners worldwide.

In addition to freshly-roasted coffee, they also provide brewing techniques, travel cups and mugs, grinders, and kettles.

It all started with a trip to Mexico. Chris Treter (Co-founder) met the farmers of the Maya Vinic cooperative (who are also their longest-standing partner cooperative) during a post-graduate internship.

The journey served as a catalyst for a coffee company, an importing cooperative, a non-profit organization, and most significantly, access to rights for coffee-producing communities worldwide.

They enable coffee lovers to participate in a cycle that begins with their partners in coffee-growing countries and returns to them.

They are completely engaged in this cycle, sourcing coffee directly from farmers through our importer Cooperative Coffees, and giving back to the farmers and their communities through our sister NGO On the Ground.

They are honored to be a part of the largest historic preservation and adaptive reuse redevelopments in the United States, which are located at the Village at Grand Traverse Commons.

Their method of roasting is “fluid air-bed roasting.” This method of roasting preserves the coffee’s delicate flavor characteristics significantly better than drum or screw roasters.

Whether you own a restaurant, a gift basket business, are building a cafe, or are the category manager for a national grocery chain, Leelanau Coffee Roasting will assist you with your coffee purchase.

You can choose between regular, flavored, and decaf coffee.

3. Roaster Jack Coffee Co.

RoasterJack’s approach to providing premium coffee begins with the understanding that the best coffees are produced by individuals who care about their work and the impact of their harvest once it leaves the farm.

RoasterJack’s passion for direct sourcing only became stronger after he was able to witness the process firsthand and meet the individuals responsible for his enjoyment of roasting.

Every day of the week, their coffees are roasted to perfection by hand using two drum roasters created in the United States.

From charge to drop (beginning to end in roaster parlance), they watch the development of each batch in order to preserve the optimal expression of each of our bean origins for you.

All of their coffees are produced using our drum roaster. Drum roasting promotes uniform heat absorption via convection and drum contact.

When the coffee reaches the ideal degree of roasting, it is transferred to a cooling tray and cooled by pushing cool air through the batch while stirring. The coffee is then packaged within an hour.
